A diver's watch that set itself apart...
Date:January 6, 2012
Ok, I'm paying forward and leaving a review on this beautiful watch. I must admit I was hesitant on purchasing this watch. I've been collecting watches over 15 years and I tend to side on the traditional and conservative styles. In my main collection I have Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Panerai, Cartier and Ball watches. I wear a suit and tie to work everyday so I tend to buy watches that will not look out of place or are too flashy. But let me tell you, this particular Hamilton is right at home and I believe is this silver dial and rubber strap combination that makes it stand out from the other Belowzero combinations.
The case is unique and this watch will not be confused by any other watch. Hamilton paid very close attention to details on this watch and the fit and finish is on par to my more expensive watches.
The silver dial is beautiful and very legible despite my initial concerns. The numbers are raised and are filled with lluminescence but the glow is weak at night compare to a Seiko diver. The rubber strap looks very expensive, it is extremely comfortable, soft and it is more on the elegant side than the sporty side. However, for a diver's watch is in the short side and it won't fit over a diving suit.
The 42MM side is perfect. Not too big or small and because the overall thickness is 12MM it sits low and wears very comfortable. The crown is big and beefy. The bezel is very thigh and because it is polished it gives the watch that touch of elegance.
On the downside is the case back. It is clear and shows an un-decorated and pretty boring ETA movement. I'd had preferred a solid case back as the movement is nothing to write home about. However, its timekeeping has been superb and my watch has been keeping time within COSC standards.
If you are a diver and want a reliable and tested diver's watch, buy a Seiko diver, save yourself some money and you'll be set. But if you are looking for a diver's watch that is unique and can be either dress up or down, this is it. I'm very impressed with the Hamilton brand and their quality. Since then, I have added another four models to my collection. Hamilton watches are a great bargain and their quality are in par with watches that are two to three time more expensive. And think about this: when one has the opportunity to wear classic and more expensive watches like a Rolex Daytona or Submariner, Omega Speedmaster or Planet Ocean, Breitling Navitimer or a Panerai GMT but chooses to wear this one instead, that says volume in my book.
And of course, Ashford's excellent service and great prices make this watch even a better deal.
