Blancpain, a brand name which does not need further introduction in the world of luxurious timepiece. Currently, there are basically 4 types of real expensive watches that supplies the so called Luxury Timepiece market. I'm not talking about movement and functions, but refer merely to the nature and background of manufacturers. The first type is the traditional watch maker which has a long history in the industry and established their renowned status through watch making(e.g Blancpain, Breguet, Patek Philippe). The second type are jewellers that focus on the upper-class merchandise market and manufacture most of their watches with full precious metals, diamonds and gems( e.g Cartier, MontBlanc). The third type are fashion pioneers which are well known for their fashion brand names( e.g Chanel, Versace) and the forth type manufactures extremely complicated and futuristic watches( e.g Urwerk, Harry Winston).
Of course, collecting items as hobbies are always very personal as each person has their own preferences, and today we will only be looking into the value of this watch because most of the people who buys luxury timepiece will more or less include investment as a consideration factor during assessment.
Established in year 1735, Blancpain is one of the oldest watchmaker still in production (40 years earlier than Breguet in 1775). Blancpain designs and manufacture a complete series of complications of it’s own and is famous for being the creator of one of the most complicated mechanical watches ever made, the Blancpain 1735, a limited edition of 30 pieces only true grand complication (combining Tourbillon, minute repeater, perpetual calendar, split chrono) with production of just one piece per year. It’s another renowned series the Fathom collection was chosen by the United States Navy, proving how reliable a Blancpain watch offers.
The model in review is 2685F-3630-53B, a Perpetual Calendar Complication powered by a 35 Jewels in-house mechanical automatic self-winding movement(Calibre F585) in 18K Rose gold with black dial and black leather strap. Its mechanical memory automatically displays the day, the month, the date and the moon phase, even on leap years thanks to a diminutive satellite wheel that takes exactly four years to effect a single complete rotation. Well, I have to admit that with a price tag of almost $30K USD is indeed…not cheap, you can even buy a Ford Mustang with such a sum of money. However, If you intend to invest your money on a timepiece, whether it is for collection, daily use, as a gift or even reselling, this watch is absolutely worth considering. Currently, Ashford is giving a generous 39% discount off this watch at $27,206.00 (MSRP $44,600.00), that gives us another reason to buy it because Blancpain watches produces in small quantity (In comparison to a large watch maker like Rolex, which makes about 2,000 watches a day, Blancpain produces fewer than 10,000 watches a year.) and U.S has a market with high availability of complete collections for luxurious watches while prices are also lower compare to many other countries. Therefore, it is not impossible to make some money by reselling a timepiece to foreigners or a foreign country when you pick the right choice, and this reviewed Blancpain is considered quite a wise one. Everything in this watch is top notch, no matter from design to craftsmanship, or from build quality to every little detail, this watch is truly a 5 star model in almost every aspect.
